Job Title: Director, Environmental Project Management

Sterling Labs is seeking a highly qualified Environmental Project Management Director for our O’Hare office. This role demands a minimum of 10 years of environmental project management experience, specifically in developing, bidding, proposing, and managing projects related to site assessment, remediation, general compliance, and other environmental tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Personnel Management

  • Oversee project management department functions and personnel.
  • Collaborate with laboratory management, team leads, clients, chemists, and technicians on project status, customer requests, etc.
  • Complete all projects set up activities to meet the requirements of Sterling Labs’ Laboratory Management System. (LIMS). Communicate with the Operations department to ensure lab supplies are available.
  • Provide timely advice to junior project managers and laboratory management.
  • Review sample login information in Element 7.
  • Address data discrepancies with personnel.
  • Review all tests methods to ensure that the work product will comply with regulatory parameters, detection limits, etc., and any unique needs or concerns of the client.
  • Ensure deadlines are met by coordinating with lab management and team leads.
  • Maintain and preserve samples properly.

Client Management

  • Provide general customer service support, including responding to inquiries and attending to customers at our facilities.
  • Oversee and assist with existing client needs, including work order generation, review, and delivery in Element 7. Schedule all analysis, pickups for Laboratory as specified in Sterling Labs Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure client deliverables meet project-specific requirements and quality standards.
  • Establish pricing in accordance with Sterling Labs Pricing Guidelines and secure the appropriate internal approvals prior to releasing the proposal to the client. Prepare marketing materials, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Review all Chain of Custodies (COCs), daily to ensure the correct tests and methods are selected and logged into LIMS and resolve all questions with client/field/lab prior to initiation of services. Make sure that all COCs reflect what the client needs and wants and that the COCs are filled out correctly. Resolve any ambiguities prior to the start of work.
  • Generate customer quote requests and project reports.
  • Generate and deliver project invoices.
  • Ship and receive appropriate packages.
  • Manage client contracts, quotes, and proposals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with consulting firms and industrial clients.
  • Submit reports to client by the required deadline. Inform the client of any delays that may have a significant impact on the delivery date.
  • Travel may be required (less than 10-20% of a typical week).

Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in chemistry, geology, engineering, or environmental sciences
  • Strong background in environmental laboratory operations
  • Proven success in executing and managing environmental projects in the Chicagoland area and the Midwest
  • Extensive understanding of environmental and industrial clients
  • Familiarity with EPA/AIHA and/or State regulatory requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience for customer service and training junior personnel
